1a. Why did you start listening to Punk/Hardcore?
Catching a ride to school in 9th grade from Ricky Gieger, Jon Temple put a homemade Angry Somoans / MDC / Minor Threat tape in the cassette. It was on since then because the music resonated with every fiber of me.
1b. What was your first punk/ hardcore album that you bought (or stole)?
I think it was a DOA album. We didn’t have money so we depended on the kids (with money to buy them) at the beach and Mandarin to make us tapes.
2. What was the first Punk/Hardcore band that you saw live?
Data Panic, Smashed Armadillos, and Stevie Stiletto and the Switchblades I was with Ty Andersen, Jerry and Jon Temple, and Evans Indalos. We ended up getting into a fight with the “Westside Crew” Dallas and Dean Maddox, Billy Hughes, Tunis, and Wes in the middle of the street in front of the 7:30 Club. Of note, the next week when we showed back up at the 7:30 Club we became good friends with the Westside guys as well as the OP Crew (Tanner is the only name I remember).
3. What was the first Punk/ Hardcore band that you played in?
Care Unit with Dallas and Dean Maddox.
4. Why did you start listening/playing Punk Rock?
It was everything I wanted to be, it embraced being poor, considered being less than, being of lesser means, and grating against the system, and stuck up for the “little guy” or TR (hahahaha, Suburbia reference).
5. Where was your first Punk/ Hardcore show played at?
7:30 Club. We played other places , mostly house parties and the Switchblades and Brutal Assault were nice enough to let us tag along and play the Metroplex in Atlanta.
6. Who were the people in the band?
Dallas and Dean Maddox.
7. Who were the friends that came?
The standard 7:30 Club people that were there every week, no matter who was playing.
8. How much was played?
Our sets were supper fast, like the music…. And that was playing the same 9 songs twice, hahahaha.
9. What bands and line up, in order have you played in:
We were always the first band to play and as luck would have it…… We never became rock stars. Thanks for asking for my input, I am honored and humbled. Cheers.
